THE
FRIENDLY
SPICE
STORE
This is what spices taste like when it knows where it comes from.
For centuries Asia's spices were stolen and sold by outsiders - extracting wealth, erasing stories, and calling it their own. That dynamic never really ended. Today, spices are still bought low and sold high by those who have no knowledge of the land and its caretakers, no roots in the culture they profit off, and no reverence for the product they put forth.
We're here to change that. Our spices are grown, sourced, and owned by Sri Lankans, who treat your spices with the respect it deserves. A respect earned over 3000 years of perfecting the craft.
There’s a reason the world once sailed across oceans and waged wars for these flavours. Sri Lanka’s fertile soil, lush climate, and generations of mastery create depth and complexity that can’t be replicated, a living expression of the island itself. It’s this rare harmony of land and legacy that make our spices the finest on earth.
Our local sourcing specialists stand behind forty years of experience, understanding and trust in pursuing only the very best spices. We know the land, the harvests, and the growers in a way that no one else does, offering you a standard of spices no one else can. These spices tell our story and we take great pride, care and joy in sharing it with you. Our growers tend the same fields their ancestors did. They know the tide of the monsoons, the fragrance that signals ripeness and the rhythm of drying under the sun. Relationships forged in a shared mother tongue grant us first access to the very best of each harvest, captured at their natural peak.
“Yahlu” means friendly in Sinhalese. It means we’ve got your back. It means we fight for flavour - from the people who grow it, to the people who know it. We’re building a community that embodies Sri Lanka’s famous hospitality. A community that cares about great food and where it comes from. A celebration of how cultures and cuisines can shape one another with genuine warmth and respect. We’re here to invite you in, feed you well and tell you the truth.
Even when it stings.
Our work doesn't end at the plate. A portion of every sale is reinvested back into Sri Lankan communities, for spices that taste great and do good.
Real spice, with real roots is back on the table where it belongs - heritage honoured, wisdom preserved, and provenance you can taste.
